John Krakauer- the auther of the book, "into the wild". He relates his adventures as a young man to Chris McCandless by telling his story about his climb of the devils thumb and the mental and physical things that he went through durring this trip.
Chris McCandless- the main character of the story "into the wild" he leaves a pretty well of life, and becomes a nomad to get out of normal social life. This eventually leads him to Alaska where he goes into the wild to live in seclution. However, he meets his demise when he makes mistakes because of his lack of expertise towards the wilderness.
Lewis Krakauer- the father of Jon Krakauer who is very tough and expectant of his kids wanting them to go to medical school instead of what they want to do. Eventually he loses his spark and even tries to commit suicide infront of John.
